The VP of Human Resources (West) candidate will be a strong leader, a champion of team member engagement, and very knowledgeable in California labor and employment laws. This role will be responsible for executing people management strategies in support of the overall business plan and field operational needs of the organization, specifically overseeing accountability for a high-performing workforce through talent management and development, administration of company policies and procedures, and managing performance expectations. Reporting to the SVP of Human Resources, this role will identify and articulate HR challenges, needs, and plans at an executive level to ensure the company delivers outstanding services to our customers and government partners.

Essential Functions:
Overseeing and supporting all HR functions, including onboarding and developing qualified new hires, implementing and maintaining performance management and progressive discipline initiatives, supervising employee and labor relations matters, supporting workers compensation and safety programs, ensuring affirmative action compliance, auditing processes and procedures to identify efficiencies and improvements, and providing adequate in-person and remote leadership.
Providing strategic direction and support to senior HR management on workforce planning, from tracking and meeting daily site-based staffing needs to restructuring or reducing workforce levels and succession planning.
Advising and directing resolutions and outcomes of personnel disputes and workplace conflicts, including through progressive discipline or employment separations.
Proposing, implementing, and administering policies and programs related to personnel management to maintain a positive, productive, fair, and consistent employment environment.
Ensuring communication channels and connections between Field Operations and HR are open to support employee leaves of absence, ADA requests and staffing coverage needs.
Instituting internal communications strategies to improve awareness of HR partnership opportunities with Field Operations teams.
Establishing and maintaining direct points of contact with Field Operations teams to meet site staffing requirements and advise on workplace compliance.
Building relationships with other key company stakeholders, including partnering with the Risk Management and Safety teams on responding to workplace hazards and developing mitigation strategies to maintain a safe working environment.
Participating in and leading regular team and individual meetings, including traveling to connect with site-based HR teams and facilitate collaboration with site operations management.

Knowledge and Skills:
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (including Teams) or related software.
Knowledge of and experience with varied human resources information systems, preferably UKG.
Collaborative approach to working with internal customers (i.e., Field Operations stakeholders) and experience managing contractual personnel obligations of external customers (i.e., government contract partners).

Education and Experience:
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in human resources or a related field is required. Master’s degree in business communications, human resources, or related field preferred.
Professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR) is highly desired.
Minimum of 10-12 years of dedicated, well-rounded HR experience, with at least 1-2 years at an executive level.
Proven expertise in employment-related laws and regulations at local, state, and federal levels, with demonstrated success in California employment law.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Must be able to travel within the Continental United States (CONUS).
Must pass a drug test, motor vehicle record check, and background check after accepting a conditional offer of employment.
